ABSTRACT |
Canine parvovirus is a highly contagious viral infection that mainly affects dogs, especially unvaccinated puppies. Belonging to the Parvoviridae family, the virus attacks rapidly growing cells, such as those in the gastrointestinal tract, resulting in severe symptoms such as vomiting, bloody diarrhea and dehydration. Prevention by through vaccination is crucial, and rapid veterinary intervention is essential to increase the chances of recovery. We present a case of a 9-year-old dog weighing 4,500kg, SRD, diagnosed through positive rapid test, showing serious symptoms such as abdominal pain, diarrhea bloody and intense vomiting. The patient, who had free access to the street, presented leukopenia and lymphopenia in the blood count, confirming the diagnosis of parvovirus. Treatment involved hospitalization, fluid therapy and medications such as Metronidazole and Ondansetron. After 5 days, the animal recovered. This case highlights the importance of rapid diagnosis, intensive treatment with fluid therapy and medication approach to control the symptoms of parvovirus. O Treatment success reinforces the relevance of cooperation between the tutor and the team veterinarian to ensure continuity of care at home The best way to prevent canine parvovirus is through vaccination with vaccines existing imported vaccines for the species, carrying out a complete vaccination schedule, with doses of reinforcement. Revaccination is recommended annually. |
